Ohio State is entering a new era at the quarterback position with the departure of Will Howard and Air Noland to the transfer portal. The Buckeyes will have Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and incoming five-star freshman Tavien St. Clair competing for the starting role in 2025.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — It didn’t take much imagination to assume that Ohio State ’s quarterback group could end up this way at the end of 2024.
The Buckeyes lost freshman signal-caller Air Noland, who won’t be with the team during playoff practices, and third-year Devin Brown, who will be available for playoff games and practices, to the transfer portal. While Noland was behind fellow freshman Julian Sayin on the depth chart, Brown was the backup to Howard — and seemingly in line for a third-straight season with a quarterback battle.
Then there’s Kienholz, who will be the most-tenured quarterback entering his third season. And, of course, St. Clair enters with all the hype of a five-star freshman quarterback — not to mention, he’s an Ohioan. The room is now set up for the long haul with a talented assortment of recruits that should be amongst the highest-rated recruits of their various classes.
