OSU players immediately went after the flag, and it led to an altercation between the two teams. Ohio State Police Department released a statement shortly after the game: "Following the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in breaking up an on-field altercation. During the scuffle, multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for games & will continue to investigate."
Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles got pepper sprayed and was seen by ABC 6's Dave Holmes leaving the field holding his eyes. Brian Steel, President of the local F.O.P., tweeted that an officer was injured during the altercation, and was taken to a hospital. Ohio State University has confirmed it was an OSUPD officer.
