Ohio State's Max Moldovan came up short in his bid to make the U.S. Open for a second straight year. But his fate wasn't decided until after 44 holes.
, the Ohio State junior could not repeat the feat, but did manage to force some drama in a three-man playoff that also included professional golfers Alex Schaake and Dylan Wu.
Both golfers missed potential birdie putts by inches on the par-4 eleventh. They likewise parred the twelfth hole and birdied the thirteenth. On the fourteenth, they both two-putted to force another hole. The situation was reversed on hole No. 16 with Schaake looking like he had a chance to end the marathon session. However, Moldovan matched Schaake in shooting par despite initially leaving his approach shot around 25 feet short.
