Ohio State football started the Rutgers game down two starting defensive backs and lost more players from that unit along the way.

coach Ryan Day said he doesn’t know how long his defense will need to play without both cornerback Denzel Burke and safety Lathan Ransom.on Saturday. By the end of the game, the defense that has led the Buckeyes to No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff rankings reveal had more injury concerns on defense.

He spent the second half without his helmet, which is common for players who sustain potential head injuries. Being allowed to talk to reporters immediately after the game, though, could be taken as a sig that OSU does not suspect a long-term problem. J.T. Tuimoloau also wore a wrap on his hand as he walked to the bus. He sustained an injury in the second half but it did not appear to cost him any time. An athletic trainer talked to him briefly on the sideline, then appeared to give defensive line coach Larry Johnson acknowledgement that he could return to the field.

“I don’t have the answer to that — and I don’t think we know the answer to that,” Day said when asked about their potential return. “So we’ll get back and reassess it.”
