Ohio State football officially kicked off Marvin Harrison Jr.'s Heisman Trophy campaign after Saturday's win at Rutgers.
Marvin Harrison Jr. spent much of that game on the quiet side, until Kyle McCord found him twice for touchdowns in the fourth quarter. By the third-year receiver’s standards, four receptions for 25 yards doesn’t move the needle. But those last two scores helped the Buckeyes move forward with a pre-planned rollout.
Harrison has surged back into contention over the past five games, totaling 578 yards and seven touchdowns on 35 receptions. Prior to the season, Harrison sat around 12th in the Heisman odds. That was in part a reflection of how rarely receivers contend for the award, with one making the voting top 10 over the past five years.Harrison has three games remaining, and possibly a Big Ten championship game, to make his own case, regardless of OSU’s PR machine.• OFFENSE: No surprise after TreVeyon Henderson totaled 208 yards — 133 and a touchdown on the ground and 75 on five receptions as a receiever.
