Jim Knowles, Ohio State's defensive coordinator, is set to address the media ahead of the Buckeyes' rematch against Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Knowles reflects on the previous loss to the Ducks and emphasizes the importance of learning and growing from setbacks. Both Knowles and defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau discuss the team's mindset, highlighting their hunger for redemption and the determination to prove themselves.
The Buckeyes take on unbeaten top seed Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Wednesday in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal-round game. "It's all beneficial and it's all a burden," Knowles said on playing Oregon a second time.
"You always hope for a second shot when you don't do well. That's life." "It's a constant learning process, I mean if you're not learning as a coach or a player, you're not growing," Knowes added. "I'm always confident that it's fixed, you know. You always stay up at night, concerned about other things. It's a process." "Every game day is a test. No matter what is done previously, you don't get any credit for it. You have to go out and prove yourself," Knowles said."There's an edge, there's veterans, that always gives you confidence. There's no panic. If we give up a play or something negative happens, there's no panic. Guys know how to fix things. When you have a team that's together with veteran leadership.""Same as always. Professional, resolved, competitive. No matter who we're playing, he's trying to get better." Defensive End J.T. Tuimoloau talked about how the defense's mentality ahead of a second game with Oregon. "Hungry and thankful. We know how the last time went, we had a chip on our shoulder. We were riding high before that game, and we took that loss," Tuimoloau said. "Everything is at stake right now, we're just fighting to wear the Ohio State jersey for the next game. That's what's at stake. " "I don't think anybody imagined it, us losing. I didn't that's for sure," Tuimoloau said about the loss at Oregon. "It kinda hit deep. You can let it sting for a little bit, but if you let it carry over too long, then there goes your whole season. I think we did a great job of understanding, coming together in this room." When asked about his relationship with fellow Defensive End Jack Sawyer, Tuimoloau spoke highly of the Buckeye Captain. "That's my brother, we're different but we're very alike. Outside, he's louder, I'm quiet, but once we're on the field we're like the same person. We'll do anything for this team, we'll die for our players and we'll give everything we got. "The winner will meet either Texas or Arizona State in a semifinal game in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Jan. 10.Yards allowed per game OSU also ranks No. 8 in rushing yards allowed per game . However, when the teams met in Eugene, Oregon, back in October, the Ducks scored by far the most points against OSU this season in a 32-31 victory at Autzen Stadium.Oregon also passed for 341 yards and ran for 155 more. Knowles surely will be asked Friday about that first meeting and what the OSU defense might do differently in this rematch. His news conference is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. and will be streamed live on this page at that time.
