The crowds Chic Harley drew to Ohio Field (with a seating capacity of around 20,000) inspired the building of and fundraising for Ohio Stadium.

Ohio State football is celebrating a century at the Horseshoe this year. In recognition of that, The Columbus Dispatch will be sharing special Ohio Stadium content throughout this week.

Although he never played there, it's possible that there is no Buckeyes football player so intrinsically linked to Ohio Stadium asThe halfback/safety/kicker was Ohio State's first consensus first-team All-American. He would go on to win the honor two more times, making him college football's first three-time selection. Unsurprisingly, he became a charter inductee of the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951.

And the crowds the East High School grad drew to Ohio Field were what helped convince OSU to build such a grand monument and helped raise more than $1 million for its construction.OSU great Chic Harley never played at Ohio Stadium, but may be more tightly associated with it than any other Buckeye great.
