The Ohio Senate voted unanimously to name a portion of Interstate 480 in honor of fallen Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Senate voted unanimously to name a portion of Interstate 480 in honor of fallen Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin. Dawn Derbin, the mother of the fallen officer, addressed an Ohio Senate Committee on Wednesday about why a portion of I-480 in Brooklyn Heights should carry his name.

“Naming this portion of I-480 in his honor is more than a sign. It’s a lasting reminder of a life that was lived with purpose. It tells his story, it honors his sacrifice, and it keeps his legacy alive,” Dawn Derbin said.“He answered a call for help, and he put others before himself. And he never came home. As a mother, there are no words to describe that kind of loss,” Dawn Derbin said. The Ohio Senate voted unanimously to name a portion of I-480, both east and westbound in Brooklyn Heights and the I-77 interchange as “Officer Jacob J. Derbin Memorial Highway.” Dawn Derbin talked about the loss of a son, just 23 years old, a son who lived to serve his country and community. “He’s more than just a name. He was an incredible human being. And I want the world to remember him. No mother wants their child forgotten, and this is a beautiful way to remember him,” Derbin said.A street has already been named in the officer’s honor, and a memorial has been dedicated to the officer who saved the lives of two citizens, as well as his fellow officers that night.‘We will miss her terribly’: Sports reporter, her 3 children and family dog found dead in house fireFentanyl found inside Barbies sold at discount store, police sayCleveland Police need help identifying individuals who allegedly fled the scene after serious crashRookie Chase DeLauter homers twice in 1st regular-season game, Guardians beat Mariners 6-4
