'I just wonder what (Vance is) up to. Typically, if a candidate isn’t having as many events, they’re sometimes using that to raise money.'
But in the money game, Vance's opponent has the upper hand. raised $9.1 million in the latest fundraising period compared to Vance's $2.3 million, according to Federal Election Commission filings. The funding disparity raised eyebrows among political observers, and some suggested Vance needs to up the ante to keep the race competitive.
"People try to say, 'Where’s the race in July?' That has never, ever been a barometer of where it’s ended up," said Jai Chabria, a strategist for Vance's campaign. Ryan's campaign, which tends to , spent more than $10 million in the second quarter, filings show. A large chunk of that went to campaign mailers and Facebook advertising.
