Vivian Geraghty claimed in a 2022 lawsuit she was instructed to address two students by their preferred pronouns and names.

An Ohio school district agreed to a $450K settlement with a teacher dismissed over a dispute regarding use of a student’s pronouns.she was instructed to address two students by their preferred pronouns and names. She claimed that request signified the students' decisions to transition to genders inconsistent with their sex assigned at birth.

"But as soon as Defendants found out that Ms. Geraghty had a religious basis for resisting their attempt to implement an orthodoxy, they forced her to resign," the lawsuit reads. “No school official can force a teacher to set her religious beliefs aside in order to keep her job,” ADF Legal Counsel Logan Spena said. “The school tried to force Vivian to accept and repeat the school’s viewpoint on issues that go to the foundation of morality and human identity, like what makes us male or female, by ordering her to personally participate in the social transition of her students.

Jackson Local Schools did not respond to a request for comment from Crisis in the Classroom on Friday.
