CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ohio roads became safer in 2025 as deadly crashes decreased for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The highway became safer for drivers and their families, with 37 fewer lives lost compared to the previous year.
“For the fourth year in a row Ohio saw a decrease in fatal crashes statewide. 37 fewer lives lost,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Jeremy Kindler.Ohio Turnpike Chief Engineer Chris Matta said he sees a dangerous trend of people thinking their car will protect them from a crash. “There are all these safety features that are standard equipment, but they don’t replace the personal responsibility of someone behind that wheel. People need to realize they have a 2,000 pound vehicle they are in charge of,” Matta said. State troopers will focus on three violations in 2026: speeding, distracted driving and unbuckled seat belts. “Enforcement matters but we also need drivers to make responsible decisions every time they get behind the wheel,” Kindler said.41 DUI arrests by trooper dismissed after many drivers were deemed soberHigh school secretary arrested after husband finds her with studentAkron pothole repair: New emulsion machines offer permanent fix, fewer workers in trafficFederal judge will not decide Friday if Cleveland will be clear of the Consent Decree
