In a campaign that largely has been all about Donald Trump, the Ohio Republican Senate candidates who failed to get the ex-president’s endorsement are now doing their best to navigate the final days of the race without it.

WESTLAKE, Ohio --

But there were apparent stylistic differences from previous Mandel appearances, which heavily featured Trump. He only briefly mentioned the former president and instead focused on topics that appealed to his supporters’ brand of conservatism: abortion, culture wars and defeating Democrats. A full-page ad taken out in The Plain Dealer by Lawrence Gelman of Texas also admonishes Trump’s past endorsements, including Romney and former Arizona Sen. John McCain.

. Only around 10 people showed up to see Gibbons outside a recreational vehicle emblazoned with his name in a Target parking lot before heading out to nearby neighborhoods to knock on doors. The campaign said there had been a scheduling mix-up, and some of the volunteers had gone to another location.

But Vance was doing the most in that department, Gibbons said. Over the final days, the likes of Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, former Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes and activist and radio show host Charlie Kirk all are stumping for Vance.

Sen. Rob Portman and former Ohio Republican Party chairman Jane Timken speak to reporters on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Timken's U.S. Senate campaign headquarters in Columbus. There were signs, though, of how her campaign indeed had changed. In her speech, delivered to a crowd of roughly 40 people that included campaign volunteers, staff and a few elected officials, Timken made no direct reference to the former president, instead again touting her support for “America First” policies.

His campaign hopes the contrast between Dolan and the rest of the field will prove a winning formula, allowing Dolan to eke out a victory while the other pro-Trump candidates split up Republican votes.
