Ohio is canceling nearly 500 non-citizen voter registrations, Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced on Thursday.
He directed county election boards to remove 499 voters from the state’s database, citing an article of the Ohio Constitution limiting voting access to American citizens.
A state review of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database, which allows the government to search whether a person is a citizen before granting any benefits, confirmed their statuses, LaRose noted. The affected voters can still submit a provisional ballot, which the state pledged to count after receiving proof of citizenship.
