A New York grand jury on Thursday indicted former President Donald Trump on unspecified criminal charges.
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, one of Trump's strongest supporters in Congress tweeted just one word when news of the indictment came down.Jordan is one of three Republican House committee chairs who called for testimony from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is leading the investigation. The GOP chairs said they have concerns Bragg’s investigation of Trump would becomeDemocratic lawmakers said Trump deserves the same treatment as any other American.
"The American people should see this indictment for what it truly is: A politically motivated prosecution by a DA who is pursuing Donald Trump for political reasons" Miller posted on Twitter. Republican Ohio U.S. Senate candidates running in 2024 for the chance to take on U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, also weighed in.
The decision not to weigh in comes as President Joe Biden has said nothing publicly about Trump’s legal troubles since the former president announced that he expected to face criminal charges.
