Ohio COVID-19 cases are now at their highest level since mid-February
CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the 10th consecutive week, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ohio worsened, rising from 5,962 last week to 6,660Cases moved steadily downward in the spring but have been on an upward swing since early June.
Thursday’s report marked the highest number of new cases since mid-February, and the total was more than double the amount at the same time last year. At least 1,382,824 Ohioans have received the updated one-dose COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 1,163 people from the prior week, the state reported. This represents 11.8% of the state’s population.There were 192 Ohioans newly hospitalized in the last week, raising the total since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 to 152,576. Six people were admitted into the ICU, raising the total since 2020 to 15,836.
The state health department reported an additional 11 deaths from COVID-19, raising the total to 44,073.
