Daisha Somers, 24 of Logan, and her boyfriend, Jerry Johnson IV, 33, of Columbus, each are charged with endangering children, but likely will face additional charges, according to the Hocking County Sheriff's Office.
LOGAN, Ohio — A Hocking County couple is being held in jail on criminal charges after a 10-month-old girl with multiple injuries, including seven skull fractures, died after being on life support for three days, authorities say.
A news release from the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office says Somers, who is the girl’s mother, and Johnson took the infant girl to the emergency room at Hocking Valley Community Hospital on Nov. 20. Deputies were called to the hospital because the girl had “extreme trauma and injuries,” which included seven skull fractures, bleeding of the stomach, blood in the urine, retinal hemorrhages, multiple strokes, and prolonged cardiac arrest.
Somers and Johnson reportedly told deputies they brought the girl to the hospital after they heard a loud “thud” during the early-morning hours. They told deputies the girl had fallen out of her toddler bed and struck her head. Johnson is accused of changing his story during later interviews, saying he found the girl unresponsive and not breathing while Somers was doing laundry at another location. The sheriff’s office says Somers admitted to smoking methamphetamine and Johnson admitted to smoking marijuana and was drunk.
