GROVE CITY, Ohio — Don Leonard, a Democratic candidate for Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, was arrested Saturday morning during a "No Kings" protest in Grove City. The incident occurred as Leonard, an Ohio State University professor and former Peace Corps volunteer, was addressing a crowd of demonstrators.
According to witnesses, Leonard was using a bullhorn when Grove City police officers approached and ordered him to stop using the amplification device.Leonard’s campaign confirmed the arrest to ABC 6 and wants supporters to know that the candidate is "safe." Leonard is currently seeking the Democratic nomination in the May 5 primary to represent a district that includes Grove City, Hilliard, and parts of southern Franklin County. He is facing fellow Democrat Adam Miller for the chance to challenge Republican incumbent Mike Carey in November. Grove City officials have not yet specified what charges Leonard may face, though local ordinances typically require permits for sound amplification in public spaces.
