Ohio colleges offer former students a pathway back to higher education with new ‘stranded credit program’

Eight colleges, including Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College, will be helping former college students throughout Northeast Ohio make progress toward their degrees with a new initiative, the Ohio College Comeback Compact.

and continuing to grow exponentially, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say many former postsecondary students—especially Black students— initially took on those heaps of debt to improve their lives and hopefully their career prospects, but instead, it has become a financial hindrance.

Looker hopes that the compact will be able to not only offer relief to former students but put them back on the pathway to education. Once enrolled, students even have a chance to qualify for up to $5,000 in debt forgiveness, Looker said.
