With the 2024 election behind us, Ohio's Secretary of State is launching a new search for inactive voters who may no longer be eligible to vote.
FILE - Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose says inactive voters and non-U.S. citizens were among those removed from voter rolls. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose directed local boards of election Thursday to begin combing through their lists for “abandoned registrations.” These are Ohio ans who stopped voting before 2020 or filed a change of address form with the U.S Postal Service.
Any voter who is at risk of being purged from the rolls is supposed to receive a notice in the mail by March 5. Their actual removal won’t be finalized until September 23. But the Ohio chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio and League of Women Voters have long argued LaRose’s efforts sometimes cross the line.
