Cyber criminals are increasingly targeting Ohio’s public agencies, costing some local governments tens of thousands of dollars a week and, in at least one case, more than $1 million, Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber said Wednesday during a stop in Jefferson County.

Every single week we're seeing $10,000, $50,000, $100,000, in one case over a $1 million dollars that is being lost to government,” Faber said. Faber said his office continues working to ensure transparency in Ohio’s government agencies, while also warning that cyber scams and attacks are rising across the state. “A week doesn't go by at the State Auditor's office that we don't get a report of some local government, a school district, a township, a county or even a state university that has been the victim of a cyber attack or cyber crime,” he said., the crimes are usually carried out through email phishing attacks. Faber urged Ohioans to take a close look at suspicious messages and verify who is actually sending them. “If it looks like a suspicious email, hover over the from button. If it's somebody with a gmail address and it pretends to be a business, it's probably not legitimate,” Faber said. “If it looks to be too good to be true as an author, it probably is. If you didn't expect to get an email from your internet provider, credit card company or somebody like that, it's probably a scam.”“That's the first thing, call somebody, get help. Secondly, is to prevent it. Prevention is the best defense,” Faber said. “You see a link on something that sounds like an interesting story, I'm just going to click it and see the story. Oftentimes, that's how people get access -- the criminals, the hackers get access to your system."“They already have your social security, they already have your address, they probably have credit card numbers. They have all that information and so you need to stay robust as a citizen all the time,” he said.“When in doubt question everything. The cyber criminals need to be right once, we have to be right 100-percent of the time to avoid the loss,” he said.Man shot dead at business on Lockbourne Road Columbus police responded to a shooting on Lockbourne Road early Wednesday morning.Few details were immediately available, but ABC6 confirmed the shooting tA body found floating in Big Walnut Creek by passerby Sunday has been identified as Angela Fair. The case, Moe v. Yost, centers on House Bill 68, which restricts access to puberty blockers and hormone therapy. The lawsuit argues the ban violates healthcare rights, while the state defends the law's protection of children from irreversible medical decisions. The court's decision could set a precedent for similar laws nationwide. Also mentioned are a job fair, a father being cleared in his daughter's shooting, severe weather, and a shooting of a police officer.
