As students in the Ogden School District return to classrooms this fall, new facilities await those grappling with poverty and homelessness. The district has la

unched innovative support centers aimed at addressing the basic needs of its most vulnerable students.Two new teen centers, located in Ogden High School and Ben Lomond High School, are set to open their doors this academic year. These facilities aim to provide a sense of home for students experiencing homelessness, which affects approximately one in ten students in the district.

Alma Palmer, assistant principal at Ogden High School emphasized the importance of meeting students' basic needs. "If you don't have your basic needs met, it's really hard to excel in another area," Palmer said. "If we get that met, then we can help inspire kids, move kids, and make the world a better place by giving them the skills they need through their education."

The centers will also serve as safe spaces for students dealing with anxiety and provide a quiet study hall environment.Grace Malan, a senior at Ogden High School. "To come here and have the necessities they'll need to have a successful school experience."Recognizing that addressing homelessness requires a holistic approach, the district has also established a family center at Odyssey Elementary School.

"If we can meet those needs and get connected to resources, hopefully we are empowering them by the time they get into high school," he said. "They will have that foundation to be successful."
