CONTINUING COVERAGE: Deputies believe the suspect was intoxicated when he began shooting an AR-15 outside on his front porch. When neighbors asked him to stop, things took a deadly turn.
A San Jacinto County man went next door with a rifle and fatally shot five of his neighbors, including an 8-year-old boy, after they asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard because they were trying to sleep, authorities said Saturday.
The sheriff told Eyewitness News that five victims, including an 8-year-old, were shot from the neck up, "almost execution style." At a 5:30 p.m. press conference, Sheriff Capers and FBI Special Agent in Charge James Smith provided updates on the search, and acknowledged that they didn't have a handle on where the suspect was located.
A total of three children found covered in blood in the home were taken to a hospital but found to be uninjured, Capers said. Rene Arevalo Sr., who lives a few houses down, said he heard gunshots around midnight but didn't think anything of it.
