Many would have thought that Antoine Griezmann would have been given the armband, but the Atletico Madrid star has been named vice captain for the two-time World Cup winners.
“Kylian Mbappé is the new France captain. Antoine Griezmann is the vice-captain. Kylian ticks all the boxes to have this responsibility. On the pitch as well as within the squad, by being a key element," Deschamps told TF1 journalist Saber Desfarges. France take on the Netherlands in their opening 2024 European Championship qualifier on Friday evening.
