FIFA has named the 12 stars contending for the 2023 The Best FIFA Men's Player award, with Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed from the list.
On Thursday, the world football governing body named the candidates in contention for the prestigious award, which was won by Lionel Messi in 2022.
The Argentine has been nominated again following his brilliant start to life in the United States with Inter Miami, while his long-time rival Ronaldo has been overlooked, just as he was for the 30-man 2023 Ballon d'Or shortlist too. Manchester City players dominate FIFA's list of contenders with five representatives and former captain Ilkay Gundogan, who joined Barcelona as a free agent for the 2023/24 campaign.

Treble-winning coach Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, is among the nominees for The Best FIFA Men's Coach award, along with Barcelona's Xavi Hernandez, Inter Milan's Simone Inzaghi, ex-Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti and Tottenham Hotspurs' Ange Postecoglou.
