A Santaquin police officer was hit and killed by a semitruck driver Sunday morning, and that driver is now in custody, according to police.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the semi fled and drove north a short distance before turning around and driving the wrong way back toward the officer and the trooper, Slaymaker said. The semi truck hit the officer and his vehicle, as well as the trooper’s vehicle. The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not identify suspects unless they have been charged with a crime.
