The shooting occurred less than a half mile from Cheesequake State Park in Middlesex County.

A man died Monday afternoon after he was shot by a police officer in Old Bridge, according to a statement from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

Police were called to Woodland Avenue in the Laurence Harbor section of town at 3:09 p.m. for a report of a dispute, the office said. Woodland Avenue is a small residential street less than a half mile from Cheesquake State Park. No other details about what transpired were released, except that only one officer was involved in the encounter. When the entire investigation is complete, the case will be presented to a grand jury, typically consisting of 16 to 23 people, to make the ultimate decision regarding whether criminal charges will be filed, the office said.
