Emily was the first child to receive CAR T-cell therapy, and in May 2012—23 days after treatment—there was no cancer in her body. It has never returned. Inspired by their daughter’s recovery and the potential for this research to help other children, the Whiteheads launched the Emily Whitehead Foundation.
