Mayor Brandon Johnson identified the fallen police officer as Luis M. Huesca and cited "gun violence" as the cause."My Office of Community Safety, in collaboration with CPD, is committed to putting every resource available toward apprehending anyone involved in this shooting and bringing them to justice," stated Johnson on X.

A motive was not provided. "The officers vehicle was taken but to get to the total motive of what happened we need more information," said Snelling.The officer was the victim of the type of crime that he was working against to keep people safe in this city,” Snelling said. “Another sad day for the Chicago Police Department.
