Chicago police said an off-duty officer was involved in a shooting in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood Wednesday morning.
An off-duty Chicago police officer was involved in a shooting on the Northwest Side Wednesday morning, according to a source.The shooting took place at about 8:16 a.m. near an Amoco gas station in the 2000-block of North Laramie Avenue, police said.So far, investigators have shared few details about the attack, which may have been caught by security cameras there.
Workers in the area who did not wish to be identified said it's possible shots rang out as an unknown gunman opened fire on a man driving a car down the street. Police officials will not confirm the specifics of their investigation, but sources close to the probe said an off-duty Chicago police officer became involved in the shooting while possibly trying to intervene in the attack.The street was blocked off for hours as detectives gathered evidence and examined the inside of a Toyota 4-Runner and the area around the silver SUV.
