The watchdog has received over 20,000 complaints about the two broadcasters so far in 2024

complaints about news broadcasters have soared almost seven-fold since the launch of GB News and Talk TV.was launched, Ofcom received 3,481 complaints – an average of around 290 complaints a month.

Earlier this week, Ofcom warned TalkTV that “potentially offensive comments” should be “justified and put into proper context,” followingheated exchange with Palestinian politician Dr Mustafa Barghouti on her programme. Last September, the regulator received almost 9,000 complaints following a section of GB News' Dan Wootton Tonight in which actor and political activistLast month, Ofcom ruled the programme had broken broadcasting rules, stating the comments were sexist, misogynistic and offensive. A report stated the remarks "constituted a highly personal attack on Ms Evans and were potentially highly offensive to viewers".
