Bacteria count is high near San Luis Rey River outlet; others include La Jolla, Ocean Beach and border areas
A football-field length of beach south of the San Luis Rey River in Oceanside was added to San Diego County’s list of seven water-quality advisories this week.
Beaches are closed when there is a known sewage or contaminant spill and there are odors or discolored water. The supervisors also directed county staff to report back within 120 days on the economic impacts of ongoing beach closures triggered by the sewage spills. San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Nora Vargas and Vice Chair Terra Lawson-Remer joined more than 2,500 county residents Wednesday who signed a petition calling on federal action from President Biden.
