Two separate fires in downtown Oceanside are being investigated by the Oceanside Fire Department as possible arson cases. The first fire occurred at the Regal Cinema on Wednesday night, while the second fire broke out at the American Tire Depot several hours later. Firefighters quickly contained both blazes, but the cause of the first fire is suspected to be intentional. The second fire may have been caused by an electrical wiring failure, but other possibilities are still under investigation.

The Oceanside Fire Department is investigating two separate fires in downtown Oceanside as possible arson. The first fire occurred at the Regal Cinema on Wednesday night shortly after 10:20 p.m. Firefighters responded to reports of flames coming from a drainage pipe on the front wall of the building. Upon arrival, they found fire emanating from the pipe and heavy smoke billowing from the roof.

Crews quickly contained the blaze to the point of origin, a plastic drainage pipe, and discovered a storage room on the opposite side of the wall that had sustained smoke damage. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was intentionally set, but no suspects have been identified. Roughly three hours later, at 1:06 a.m. on Thursday, firefighters responded to a second fire at the American Tire Depot. A 911 caller reported smoke coming from the roof of the building located at 515 North Coast Highway. Firefighters forced entry through a locked door and began attacking the fire with hoses. A separate crew used a ladder truck to cut a ventilation hole in the roof, allowing smoke and heat to escape and making it easier for interior crews to extinguish the flames. During this operation, the Fire Captain on the ladder truck noticed an HVAC unit beginning to sag into the roof, prompting the Incident Commander to order all crews out of the building and reposition hose lines for safety. Firefighters successfully contained the fire to the tire shop's lobby and confirmed that no one was inside at the time. Investigators believe an electrical wiring failure may have caused the roof fire, but other possibilities are still under consideration. The Oceanside Fire Department stated that these two incidents are not believed to be related
