You may be tempted to wish someone a happy Memorial Day this Monday. Some groups, however, say to phrase it differently.

The COSF suggests wishing someone a meaningful Memorial Day rather than a happy one, or encouraging loved ones to help remember those who have served.

It was expanded to include all American wars after World War I, and was declared a national holiday in 1971.
