The extremely undermanned Sixers were no match for the Eastern Conference’s top seed Thursday night.
The Sixers fell to a 131-109 loss in Detroit and dropped to 35-31 on the season. The Pistons moved to 47-18.MarJon Beauchamp posted a season-high 17 points and six rebounds for the Sixers. The Pistons' leading scorer was Duncan Robinson with 19 points.
Johni Broome Next up for the Sixers is a Saturday afternoon game vs. the Nets at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Here are observations on their loss to the Pistons:Edwards subbed out at the 9:32 mark of the first quarter after taking an inadvertent poke to the eye. He did not become the eighth unavailable Sixer; Edwards checked back in a few minutes later. Barlow and makeshift backup center Jabari Walker had a tough physical task against All-Star Pistons big man Jalen Duren. Given their heavily depleted frontcourt situation, there’s no question the Sixers would’ve used Broome if the rookie were healthy. Broome suffered a right knee lateral meniscus tear last month. The Sixers faced obvious obstacles in their efforts to run smooth offense. The team had several poor possessions early — minimal ball movement, tightly contested jumpers, high-risk passes — and the Pistons jumped out to a 22-10 lead when Robinson canned a three-pointer.Tyrese Martin was the only available Sixer not in head coach Nick Nurse’s 10-man rotation. He entered early in the fourth quarter with the game well out of reach.loss Monday to the Cavs. He looked ready to roll in Detroit. Beauchamp was opportunistic in transition, scored an and-one put-back layup, and wound up with 10 points in the second quarter on 4-for-6 shooting. The Sixers trailed by as many as 17 points in the second, but Beauchamp helped them make a strong run back and cut Detroit’s lead down to 64-60 on a mid-range Quentin Grimes jumper with 54.6 seconds left in the first half.Detroit got back on track late in the second quarter and the Sixers played like the 2025-26 Sixers in the third. One of the many reasons the Sixers did not pull off a stunning win was their backcourt's inability to score efficiently. VJ Edgecombe and Grimes totaled 24 points on 8-for-28 shooting, and some of that production came in a fourth quarter full of garbage time. The pair went 1 for 13 from three-point range. Walker made the most of his fourth-quarter time and finished the evening with 16 points on 6-for-6 shooting. The Pistons' lead always remained very comfortable. Of course, as was the case in a large chunk of the Sixers' games last season, there's not much of value to be gleaned from such a shorthanded night. The Sixers will check another game off the schedule and hope to be healthier on Saturday.Chester County
