(UPDATE) FILIPINO pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena finished joint fourth at the Wanda Diamond League – Meeting De Paris at the Stade Charlety Paris in France late Sunday night (Manila time).
FILIPINO pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena finished joint fourth at the Wanda Diamond League – Meeting De Paris at the Stade Charlety Paris in France late Sunday night . Obiena posted his best clearance of 5.75 meters before failing to clear 5.85 in two attempts in his final competition before the Paris Olympics. Obiena , who owns the Asian record of 6.0m, used his final try and skipped to 5.95m but could still not surpass the said height.
Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sam Kendricks of the United States finished second by surpassing 5.95m as home bet Thibaut Collet settled for bronze with a 5.85m clearance.As for Obiena, this is the third time he missed the podium in this year's outdoor season which he started with a gold medal at the Los Angeles Grand Prix in May.The 28-year-old placed seventh at the Ostrava Golden Spike in Czech Republic but rebounded with a silver medal finish at the Oslo Bislett Games in Norway.
