In 2007, Ledbetter’s case reached the Supreme Court, which, in a 5-4 decision, agreed with the appeals court that she had not met the 180-day deadline for filing her claim. “Lilly could have accepted her lot and moved on. She could have decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle and harassment that would inevitably come with speaking up for what she deserved.
