Those in line were waiting for the second of two screenings of Curry’s underdog-story documentary, which wouldn’t let out until after midnight. Such is the overwhelming popularity ofin these parts. The Warriors left for San Francisco more than three years ago, but at the film’s Bay Area premiere, it was clear the beating heart of the Warriors fan base still resides in the East Bay city where they played for 47 seasons., which is set to run through April 23.
“WARR-I-ORS!” chanted director Peter Nicks as he walked out to introduce the film. The crowd echoed the cheer back, and for a moment, it felt like we were back in Oracle Arena circa 2015. Nicks was joined on stage by famed filmmaker Ryan Coogler, a producer on the film and an Oakland native himself.
When speaking about Golden State’s past season, Coogler reflexively referred to the Warriors as “we” — proving his Bay Area bona fides.Warriors’ upcoming playoff series against the Sacramento Kings“Thanks for the love, thanks for showing up, let’s get it,” said Curry, who appeared to be FaceTiming in between drills. The brief clip was met with raucous applause.
