OAKLAND — A man’s body was found Monday near Highway 24 in North Oakland, authorities said.
Shortly before 2 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers received a call from Oakland police, who told them of the body’s discovery just behind UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland near the highway’s eastbound Martin Luther King Jr. Way off-ramp, a CHP officer said Monday afternoon in a statement.
CHP officers responded to the scene in the 700 block of 52nd Avenue in the city’s Temescal neighborhood. When they arrived, they found paramedics had also responded and found an unidentified and unresponsive man wrapped in a sleeping bag, the officer said. The paramedics pronounced the man dead at 1:38 p.m.
Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau staff responded to the scene at 2:55 p.m. and took custody of the man’s body.
