An Oak Park police detective, who was shot during an incident in the morning hours of Black Friday, has died from his injuries, the village said.

According to a spokesperson for the village, firefighters responded to a call of shots fired just after 9:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Lake Street. There, they found Reddins with a gunshot wound to the left side. "The Village of Oak Park extends its deepest condolences to Detective Reddins’ family, friends and colleagues within the Oak Park Police Department and the wider law enforcement community as they process the grief caused by this senseless violence," the village said in a statement, noting that Reddins’ death marks the first line-of-duty death for the Oak Park Police Department since 1938.
