NYPD traffic agent charged after fatally striking 7-year-old with tow truck: police
An NYPD employee who was driving a tow truck that fatally struck a 7-year-old in Brooklyn on Thursday morning has been arrested, police said Friday.
Officials said that Stephanie Sharp, a 54-year-old traffic enforcement agent, has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian or bicycle and failure to exercise due care. Sharp is accused of driving the tow truck that struck a 7-year-old boy on a scooter as he was making his way through a crosswalk at the intersection of Myrtle and North Portland Avenues in Fort Greene, shortly after 7:45 a.m. Thursday. Officials said the boy’s mother was behind him.of the community and street safety advocates including Transportation Alternatives, which has pointed to nine traffic-related deaths among New York City children this year.
