He is the second New York Police Department officer from Staten Island to take his life in recent months.

Schuler said that he last saw Rossiter about a year ago when the young man was an employee at a Staten Island-based Lowe’s home improvement store before joining the NYPD. Schuler described him as “very upbeat” and “very helpful with a big smile.” “Colin truly embodied our motto of Vir Fidelis, Faithful Man. While a student at Monsignor Farrell, Colin always went out of his way to help his fellow students, as well as faculty members,” Tobacco said.

“Farrell is a brotherhood, a fraternity, so I can say that we are very sad at the loss of our brother,” Tim Lassiter, Rossiter’s former teacher at Monsignor Farrell, told the Advance/SILive.com. Lassiter went on to say that he remembered Rossiter having a dry sense of humor, but wasn’t surprised that he went into public safety.
