A 70-year-old woman was pushed onto the subway tracks in Midtown on Saturday morning by a deranged stranger who is still on the loose, according to the NYPD.
A sicko shoved an elderly woman onto subway tracks in Midtown – where good Samaritans rushed to rescue her Saturday morning. The unidentified straphanger, 70, was on the northbound side of the 57th Street and 7th Avenue station just before 11:30 a.m. when the maniac walked up behind her and tossed her onto the tracks — where she fell and cut her head, the NYPD said.
Commuters who witnessed the attack heroically jumped onto the tracks and pulled the woman back onto the platform. The suspect, whose name wasn’t immediately released, is a known “emotionally disturbed person,” according to police sources said. Charges were pending against him. Two women who work at a Midtown hotel told the Post they pray to be safe on their daily train ride to and from Astoria.
“I leave my life in the hands of God. Nothing else,” said Maria Giannoutsos, 61, adding that one never knows what direction danger will come from. Iljana Gilezan, 60, said the attack left her “scared. ” “You also have a lot of homeless on the train,” she said.
“But we have to go to work, so we have to take the train and I’m always looking straight to God to protect me. ” Gilezan commended the “courage” of the good Samaritans who sprung into action to pull the elderly woman from the rails Saturday.
“Now that I’m getting older, I am more concerned about safety on the subway and I try to stay away from the edge,” the New York City psychiatrist said, adding that he’s glad to see the addition of some metal barriers along the tracks. “To get pushed and be saved by a fellow New Yorker, is very inspiring. ”
