Murders on Staten Island this year have skyrocketed 125%, while rape is up 60%, robberies 42%, burglaries 33%, and felony assaults 30%, NYPD data shows.
The city’s smallest borough has a big crime problem.
Harrell’s death rocked the borough, which is known as a bedroom community for cops and usually boasts the city’s lowest crime rate. Five burglars stole $2.5 million in luxury watches, plus a safe holding $160,000, during a Memorial Day heist at a Staten Island store, police said.
