New York City is offering 150 migrant families $4,000 to leave city shelters. The grants are expected to help them find a permanent place to live. The Enhanced One-Shot Deals program established by the Human Resources Administration and the Department of Homeless Service is primarily intended "to assist homeless working families in the shelter system to leave the shelter and return to independent living."These grants are one-time payments made to help families move out of the system.
Around $156 million has been allocated by the federal government for the ongoing migrant crisis, but the city says it's only received roughly a third of these funds .The city's budget director Jacques Jiha, cited the overly burdensome application requirements needed to receive the aid. In order to get an EOSD, applicants must first find an apartment that they can afford on their current income.
