Several inches fell overnight in the region and won't melt any time soon.

New Yorkers woke up to the first snowfall of winter on the first official day of the season Saturday.

Around 2 inches of snow had fallen in many parts of the city, including Central Park, according to the National Weather Service, and as much as 4 inches in parts of New Jersey. Snow is expected to end by 10 a.m. but the winter wonderland may get frozen in place with temperatures barely above freezing Saturday and dropping to the teens Saturday night.David Giambusso/Gothamist
