Mayor Adams is canceling the one-day school week in favor of an extended vacation.
Mayor Eric Adams is expected to announce Wednesday that the one-day school week prior to the start of Christmas vacation has been canceled, according to sources familiar with his decision.
Kids are off from December 24 to January 2. Normally, there's no issue. This year, though, Christmas Eve falls on a Tuesday, which means kids would just show up to school for one day after their weekend and then take an extended break., Adams' decision comes after a 12-year-old Brooklyn boy appealed to his administration and the larger student body. This doesn’t make sense. Attendance will be very low that day. Kids whose families have travel plans will have to change their plans or be marked absent. Kids and teachers will feel annoyed, and kids won’t get to learn anything or have a party with all of their friends ."
