At a news conference Monday, Mayor de Blasio said he trusts his daughter's explanation to him and his wife that she was protesting peacefully Saturday before she was arrested. "I love my daughter deeply.
I honor her. She is such a good human being. She only wants to do good in the world," de Blasio said. "She wants to see a better and more peaceful world. She believes a lot of change is needed. I’m proud of her that she cares so much that she was willing to go out and do something about it." He said she recounted the situation to him and,"She believes that everything she did was in the spirit of peaceful, respectful protest. And the bottom line, I will let her speak for herself in any way that she wants to, but I admire that was she was out there trying to change something that she thought was unjust and doing it in a peaceful manner." Her arrest was one of more than 4,400 at protests nationwide in the wake of George Floyd's death, according to The Associated Press. It was unclear if anyone was hurt. While some condemned the actions of the officers, the mayor defended the officers, saying their safety was threatened.
