New York City's major airports welcomed a record 52.3 million international travelers in 2024, surpassing the previous high set in 2019. Overall passenger traffic also hit a record 145.9 million, marking the second consecutive year of growth. Port Authority officials attribute the surge to post-pandemic recovery and significant airport upgrades.
A record 52.3 million international travelers flew through the New York City area’s major airports last year, according to initial estimates.
The airports — JFK, Newark, LaGuardia and Stewart — also had a record 145.9 million total passengers, up from 143.8 million in 2023, the Port Authority said. This made 2024 the second consecutive year for record travel at the region’s air hubs. “This record number of travelers signifies a full post-pandemic recovery and highlights the success we’ve seen modernizing the region's airports into world-class gateways,” said Kevin O’Toole, the agency’s chair, in a statement on Wednesday.
