David Banks, chancellor of New York City Public Schools, dismissed reporters' questions about the recent seizure of his phone by the FBI, laughing off the inquiry as he stated it hasn't distracted him from his job.

David Banks , the Chancellor of New York City Public Schools , answers a question during a Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education hearing on antisemitism in K-12 public schools, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Aneeta Bhole, who works for the New York Post, asked Banks whether the FBI confirmed he wasn’t the focus of a recent probe into the phones of several city officials. Banks said the agency seized his personal and work phones last week, when agents reportedly also took the devices of four other officials.Earlier in the press conference, Banks said the probe hasn’t distracted him from his job.

“There’s some times where your name may be associated with something. It doesn’t mean that it had anything to do with you at all,” Banks said. “Sometimes, kids will be accused of things – and they are, even in our schools – that they were not a part of and have nothing to do with.”
