Nvidia unveils Vera CPU and Rubin platform to power agentic AI systems and next-generation AI factories.

NVIDIA has unveiled a new generation of AI infrastructure centered on its Vera CPU and the Vera Rubin platform, designed to power the next wave of agentic AI systems and large-scale AI data centers .The company says the new processor and rack-scale architecture are built to handle the rapid growth of AI workloads, where software agents increasingly plan tasks, execute code and interact with other systems autonomously.

The Vera CPU is designed specifically for these emerging workloads. According to Nvidia, the processor delivers results with twice the efficiency and is 50 percent faster than traditional rack-scale CPUs.The chip is expected to power AI data centers used for training models, running AI agents and managing massive computing clusters across cloud platforms and enterprise systems.Agentic AI hardware pushNvidia says the Vera CPU marks a shift in how processors support modern AI systems. Rather than simply supporting GPUs, CPUs are becoming central to coordinating AI workloads across large computing environments.“Vera is arriving at a turning point for AI. As intelligence becomes agentic — capable of reasoning and acting — the importance of the systems orchestrating that work is elevated,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia.“The CPU is no longer simply supporting the model; it’s driving it. With breakthrough performance and energy efficiency, Vera unlocks AI systems that think faster and scale further.”The processor includes 88 custom-designed Olympus CPU cores and high-bandwidth memory that allows it to manage thousands of simultaneous AI environments.A single rack containing 256 Vera CPUs can support more than 22,500 concurrent AI environments used for reinforcement learning or agent testing.The processor will also work alongside Nvidia GPUs within the company’s Vera Rubin architecture, where CPUs and GPUs share data through high-speed interconnects.Major cloud companies and infrastructure providers including Alibaba, Meta, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Dell Technologies and Lenovo are planning to deploy systems built on the new processor.AI factories unveiledThe Vera CPU is part of Nvidia’s broader Vera Rubin platform, which the company describes as a new generation of AI infrastructure designed to operate as a unified supercomputer across multiple racks of hardware.The platform combines seven chips spanning compute, networking and storage to power what Nvidia calls “AI factories” — large facilities designed to generate the massive volumes of AI tokens needed for modern models.“Vera Rubin is a generational leap — seven breakthrough chips, five racks, one giant supercomputer — built to power every phase of AI,” Huang said.“The agentic AI inflection point has arrived with Vera Rubin kicking off the greatest infrastructure buildout in history.”A core configuration known as Vera Rubin NVL72 integrates 72 GPUs and 36 Vera CPUs into a single rack system connected through Nvidia’s NVLink technology.The company says the system can deliver up to four times better AI training performance and up to 10 times higher inference efficiency compared with earlier GPU platforms.Beyond data centers on Earth, Nvidia is also expanding its AI platform into space computing systems designed for satellites and orbital data centers.“Space computing, the final frontier, has arrived,” Huang said.“AI processing across space and ground systems enables real-time sensing, decision-making and autonomy.”NVIDIA says Vera CPU-based systems and Vera Rubin infrastructure will begin shipping through hardware partners in the second half of this year.
